In June, the Wulfenia blooms on the Gartnerkofel
Every year in June, a special natural spectacle can be admired on the Gartnerkofel in Nassfeld: the flowering of the strictly protected, unique blue-violet Wulfenia flower, which lasts for just a few weeks. It is extremely rare and, apart from Nassfeld, is found only in Albania and the Himalayas.
On the alpine meadows near the Watschiger Alm – where the cows graze whose milk is used to make the Original Gailtaler Almkäse – a very special rarity blooms. Those with an interest in botany make a special trip just to admire the Wulfenia flower, complete with views of the alpine pastures, the mountain lake and the Gartnerkofel.
Unfortunately, the Wulfenia flowering season is already over for 2026. However, the beautiful alpine rose blossoms will continue to delight visitors well into July.
